Sammy Dallas Detective is a wonderfully written book and I loved it.
Marni Taylor is young and looking for a serious relationship. Sammy Kidman, though handsome, seems totally wrong for her. After finding out he's an undercover detective, Sammy convinces Marni to help him by becoming a waitress at a restraunt where he hangs out. At her new job, Marni sees another side of Sammy that confuses and worries her.
This book is a great story about forgiveness as well as the affect of prayers in our lives.
I've read the second book in this series, SammyWomen Troubles, which was also good and can't wait for the next one, SammyWorking for a Living,to come out this July.
In Sammy Dallas Detective, book 1, Sammy struggles with being a Christian cop. At one point, he is talking to a priest that he runs into and the priest helps him to accept this challenge and says “Be the cop God has ordained you to be. There is your calling.†I wanted to be Marni in the book, looking the bad boy. I know I struggle with always being the nice Christian girl.
Some of the reasons I like the Sammy series are I think I fell for the bad boy Sammy Character. He puts himself into everything, good or bad and blends into undercover so well. He’s like the little boy who gets into trouble but looks adorable in doing so. Sammy starts out as a heartbreaker and a user but ends up on the other side loving Marni. It’s a book about redemption in spite of it all. I also enjoyed Marnie who discovers who own faith and who loves Sammy but gets so frustrated with him. Another thing that I liked about the series is the intimacy between Sammy and Marni and that’s it’s blessed in their marriage. I see myself in the book and that it’s not all coming up roses but yet things seem to work out.
One of the reasons I enjoyed this series is because it’s a continuation of real life. In real life, it can be boring, then busy, and problems roll into each other. The series is about growing and becoming better Christians. The characters are not perfect and they struggle with things, doing good some days and some days not so good. Prayer is so sprinkled out in the series, from small ones to large ones and the results are never quite the expected results. Several of the books show the good and bad of churches and organizations, and people in them. Humor is something that I enjoy and it’s peppered out in the series. I could list several more things about the book that I like, but these are just my top highlights.
I guess that about sums it up. Nicely! As I explained in greater detail in my review of Book #2 I purchased this series (11 books) as a dare. I LOVE romance books and I was being forced to BUY and READ a detective series. I bought it and left it on my kitchen counter for 2 weeks before I grabbed it to read at an appointment. What a GREAT decision. I know characters just like this man. Gorgeous, arrogant, and dedication to law enforcement. BUT...what Robin Hardy does so deftly throughout the series is let you know that Sammy is very flawed and is in need of help. It's the who, what, and where that makes each one of these books such a treat. They are fun, they are serious, they are deep with the Spirit, and each of the cast of characters are richly crafted. I have just finished the last in this series and went through a period of sadness yesterday. I know Robin is working on a sequel but that's a long time to have to wait I tell you! I am so very glad I took a chance to take the advice of my friend. My deepest thanks is for Robin Hardy to have given me such a fun, wild ride. denise bailey

To his new neighbor Marni, Sammy is absolutely irresistable. He's charming and smooth, but looks dangerous, and maintains an air of mystery in his actions.
